More about Matt Brown

Matt practices in family law and real estate. Born and raised in Toronto, Matt moved to Ottawa to complete his J.D. in Common Law at the University of Ottawa. He earned his J.D. in 2016 and was Called to the Ontario Bar in 2017.

Matt is a fully trained collaborative lawyer and an active member of Collaborative Practice Ottawa. He is also a member of the Carleton County Law Association. Matt has served as a speaker at the Carleton County Law Association’s Annual Family Law Conference.

Matt strongly believes in empowering his clients to resolve their family law issues, interests and priorities as they define them. He is committed to helping clients resolve their matters in as efficient and practicable a manner as possible.

Before studying and practicing law, Matt completed his B.A. Honours Specialization in Political Science at Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario. At Huron, he received numerous awards for his academic achievements, including the Huron University College Award in Chinese politics. Following his Honours B.A., he completed his M.A. in Political Science at the University of Toronto.

Matt and his wife Brooke fell in love with Ottawa almost as soon as they arrived in 2013. They plan on calling the National Capital Region their home moving forward. His son, Max, was born in Ottawa in September 2017. They welcomed their second child, a baby girl, Taylor, in July 2018.

Outside of the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on the Ottawa Senators and Redblacks. He is an avid skier and loves to take advantage of all of the great outdoor and indoor activities that life in the National Capital Region provides, including walking his dog, biking, and eating.
